First Love

When I peeped into the classroom,

my eyes pondered around in gloom.

Soft sunrays bathed your warm smile,

as our eyes locked for the first time.

Voices lingered mid-air as time froze;

I walked towards the seat up close

to the desk you rocked to and fro,

humming along in a rhythmic repose.

As time passed by I was certain ;

You were the first raindrops in a desert,

You were the warm sun in the mountains,

the one to think of when I was hurt.

On some days, I would watch you

the way you watched the fire crackle.

And I would look up at the shooting stars,

wishing for my prayers to come true.
